In the mid 1970's David Bolduc was working with imposed forms on thinly painted grounds in the a wholly abstract manner. In 1974 he began to inscribe an image, even as simple as a single stroke, onto the painted ground. From here her has developed a variety of images, sometimes a single central form, sometimes a form repeated in intervals across the surface like fan-shapes or squares. The forms are associative rather than referential. The attributes of Bolduc's painting translate to his mixed media works which incorporate painting, drawing, and found objects into the construction. Most of Bolduc's significant mixed media works were constructed in the late 1970's however, works on paper supplement his canvased throughout his established career.
