Skip to main contentBiographyOliver Girling was born in 1953 and is a citizen of Canada and the U.K. Currently he lives and works in Toronto. Girling's work have been shown in both national and international exhibitions including solo shows in Sudbury, Toronto, Owen Sound, Kingston and London, Ontario. Historically speaking, Oliver Girling was instrumental in forming the important group "Chromozone" that played such a strong role in the development of Toronto Contemporary Painting. Oliver Girling's work is found is such collections as The National Gallery of Canada, The Art Gallery of Ontario, The Canada Council Art Bank and various private and corporate collections. "Sculptures Made with Blood," donated to the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre, was shown at Mercer Union, Toronto; Norman Mackenzie Gallery, Regina; Concordia University; Montreal and Espace Blanch, Alma, Quebec. Oliver Girling is represented by the Burdett Coutts Gallery, Toronto. The painting was produced specifically for an exhibition at the Partisan Gallery in 1982 whose purpose was to raise funds for medical relief to El Salvador, at the time under the sway of a right-wing military junta. It was widely exhibited during that year and the next in the context of various group shows with political orientations.
