John Noestheden
Canadian, b. 1945
Place of BirthNetherlands
BiographyNoestheden studied print making at the University of Windsor and Tulane University in New Orleans. He became interested in the etching process as isolated gesture - not just a way of marking but, the transformation into a type of field composition. Noestheden's work has an affinity to numerous artists, in the post WWII era, working with a vocabulary of marking and gesture - from American, Cy Twombly (the closest topological comparison) to the Catalan artist, Antoni Tapies. Noestheden has also been influenced by the work of German, Hans Jartung and the automatic drawings by Belgian writer/artist, Henri Michaux.Person TypeIndividual
